If You Mostly Do the Work
A message from your manager arrives at 10 p.m. A project keeps growing past what you signed up for. Our courses help you decide where your line is, say it out loud, and keep doing reliable work within your paid hours.
If You Mostly Lead People
When work falls behind, our supervisors learn to check first whether the person has the time and tools to do the job. When the answer is no, the fix belongs to the supervisor.
Each course for workers has a counterpart in our training for supervisors.

For Workers and Supervisors
A self-paced course in six short lessons, with examples from office jobs and from retail and service work.
Supervisors learn to ask four questions in order. The first is whether the person has the time and tools to do the job.
When a worker asks which task should drop to make room for a new one, a supervisor trained in Check Before You Correct, from our Leading From the Inside Out program, has a way to answer.
About Us
Humane Culture is a family business. One of us works with the people doing the job and one works with the people leading them.
Danielle MacCartney, Ph.D., is a sociologist and Professor Emerita of Webster University, where she conducted research using the ethics of care framework. She started the Humane Culture courses for workers after watching students and early-career colleagues take on far more than any job description asked of them.
Heather MacCartney, SPHR, has spent thirty years in HR and operations building workplaces where people can speak up, feel valued, and be treated fairly. She designs culture through executive coaching and trauma-informed leadership development, and created the Culture Animals framework to help teams see how they work together.
